Paint Technician

 

Responsible for:

  • Safety
  • Economy and accuracy of work

Main purpose of job:

  • Ensure customer satisfaction in the painting of motor vehicles of all types
  • Carry out such work in a safe and economical manner
  • Employ such knowledge and skills as may be required to restore vehicles to an acceptable standard

Main job functions:

  • Observe, recognise and report on vehicle structure and paint work
  • Interpret and implement technical service instruction data
  • Indent for replacement parts and record usage
  • Prepare vehicles to the standard required by the dealership
  • Paint repair – to be able to accurately use paint mixing schemes and drying areas/equipment
  • Keep work areas clean and tidy
  • Ensure that vehicles comply with safety standards when returned to customer, or that faults have been reported and noted on job card

Main duties:

Improve profitability

  • Attain manufacturers’ and/or estimated repair/paint times
  • Report all faults, defects noticed whilst working on vehicles
  • Take care of dealership equipment, special tools and personal tools
  • Accurately report all components, materials and consumables used

Customer satisfaction

  • Protect customers’ vehicles with covers and dust sheets etc.
  • Safeguard the customers’ vehicle and contents whilst being repaired
  • Ensure that all work carried out meets acceptable safety and quality standards

Cost control

  • To ensure that all hours and material usage are accurately recorded
  • To minimise wastage of all materials and consumables

Experience, qualification & training:

  • Served a recognised apprenticeship
  • Attained a City & Guilds qualification
  • To have undertaken supplementary training courses
  • Have experience in the body/paint repair of motor vehicles
  • NVQ Level 3 Vehicle Refinishing

Health & Safety:

  • Employ good risk management techniques when working on, with and around vehicles. The garage is a high risk area that demands great care at all times.
  • Adhere to all Health & Safety, environmental and company policies and procedures, including the wearing of protective clothing, where appropriate
  • Wear appropriate clothing and safety equipment at all times
  • Adhere to cosh requirements when handling cleaning materials and chemicals (report any dangerous occurrences to line management at the earliest opportunity)

Other duties:

To promote the company’s image by appearing clean and tidy, maintaining appropriate standards of dress and appearance at all times. To undertake any other specific duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the immediate line manager or anyone else designated by the director. To work in a flexible way to ensure that the workload is completed and to undertake any other jobs commensurate of the post.
